Need to grab groceries or indulge in some retail therapy? Everything is just a quick five-minute drive away. As full-time RVers, we appreciate when things like supplies or a night out are within easy reach, and Tropic Hideaway delivers.

But what truly sets this location apart is its proximity to some of the Gulf Coast’s best attractions. Love the beach? Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are a short 20-minute drive away, offering soft white sands and picturesque views. If you’re up for a bit more exploring, you can reach:

• Fairhope: A charming small town known for its unique shops, art galleries, and a stunning pier, just 40 minutes away.
• Pensacola: A vibrant city featuring the National Naval Aviation Museum and a lively downtown, located about 50 minutes from the resort.
• Mobile: Dive into history at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park or take in the city’s rich culture and historic architecture, just an hour away.

This central location makes Tropic Hideaway an excellent choice for RVers looking to balance relaxation with adventure.

One of the highlights of staying at Tropic Hideaway is its proximity to OWA, an entertainment hotspot that’s perfect for families and adults alike. Within OWA, you’ll find Tropic Falls, a massive indoor water and theme park that offers year-round fun. 

With thrilling water slides, a lazy river, and exciting rides, it’s a must-visit attraction for anyone staying in the area.

OWA also has a bustling entertainment district filled with dining, shopping, and live events. From grabbing dinner at a local favorite to enjoying a fun night out, you’ll never run out of things to do. 

We spent a few afternoons wandering through the district, sampling local flavors and soaking in the lively atmosphere. If you’re staying at Tropic Hideaway, don’t miss the chance to experience OWA, it’s only a few minutes away.

Amenities: Making Life on the Road Comfortable

Tropic Hideaway RV Resort offers a range of amenities designed to make your stay as comfortable as possible. With nearly 200 sites available, you can choose between premium locations, back-in, or pull-through sites, all of which feature full hookups and extra-wide spaces, perfect for accommodating even the largest rigs.

Here’s what you can expect:

• Pools: Separate adult and family pools provide a space for everyone to relax or play. While the pools weren’t heated and unusable during our December stay, we can imagine how refreshing they’d be in warmer months.
• Recreation Options: If you’re looking to stay active, you’ll love the pickleball courts, putting green, and the cardio-focused fitness center. We enjoyed breaking a sweat and then unwinding by the outdoor fire pit.
• Outdoor Gathering Areas: The resort’s tiki area, complete with a TV, is a fun spot to catch a game or relax with friends. The fire pit area adds a cozy touch for cool evenings.
• Dog Park: Traveling with pets? The spacious dog park gives your furry friends a place to run and play.
• Laundry Facilities: While the resort offers washers and dryers at $2 per load, the electronic card system wasn’t operational during our stay. If you plan to do laundry, don’t forget to stock up on quarters.
• Daily Trash Pickup: A simple yet appreciated perk, no need to walk to a dumpster to dispose of your trash.

While there were a few hiccups, such as unheated pools and a leaking water hookup at our site, the overall amenities made life on the road easier and more enjoyable.

  • Our water hookup developed a leak, resulting in low water pressure. While the staff attempted a temporary fix, the issue persisted.
  • The unheated pools were a disappointment in December, but they’d likely be a hit in warmer months.
  • The laundry facilities’ reliance on quarters instead of an operational card system was a minor inconvenience.

Despite these challenges, our overall experience was positive. The resort was clean, well-maintained, and offered a great sense of community.
